Jeff Demps hand position block start

Why is NLAAF the leaders on forward thinking innovation?

Thanks to Jimson Lee of http://speedendurance.com for the article. http://speedendurance.com/2012/03/21/jeff-demps-starting-block-technique/

Here is a link of two videos from about 4 and 5 years ago showing the CEO Adarian Barr using the same asymmetrical hand position for a sprint race and in a demo video for the Cheetah Sprint Start.

Core Power, stop doing crunches, planks and sit ups

If you want to become more powerful in your movements, your core is the key. But you can't fully exploit this potential from doing sit ups , planks and crunches. Here is a short video excerpt demonstrating why. Adarian Barr explains how to use your core to create movement.

No more heavy weight lifting

I learned this week I will not perform heavy weight training again. If I can't move it fast then I am not going to mess with it.  why? two reason, body works harder at stabilizing than moving and second the joint compression is to hard on the body.Take away the eccentric portion of the lift along with the stabilizing function and resistance training will help you get even faster. We train one way slow, even at light weight we train slow and long contractions. The eccentric portion makes a person sustain the contraction longer than necessary. The stabilizing function makes the movement slow regardless of how fast we think we are firing the muscle. When looking at speed, we should also look at how fast the movement transfers to the next muscle. Often the load is all we deal with for intensity level, when speed should dictate intensity level

Training Tip

Training tip from the folks at SIK, http://www.s-i-k-fitness.com Triple extension create by the glutes will get every single leg muscle involved in the movement.  Triple extension created by the calf muscle will only involve the calf muscle in the movement. Not all movements are created equal from a muscle usage and involvement stand point and an energy expenditure standpoint.   What does it mean? Doing something like a jump squat and using your glutes to create the movement will use more muscles and burn more energy then using the calf muscles to create the movement. Just because you squatted down doesn't mean you are using your glutes.
